For this report the selected topic is about the use of statistical methods for resolving problems in any area. The area used for research for this report will be NBA area that has been facing many problems from its inception. Abrams (2009) commented that within these twenty years NBA has faced some technological advancement that has helped them in preparing and scouting for the game. Use of statistical techniques in games has not only helped the players in quantifying the data but they have helped the coaches to access the proliferation of statistical information in the best possible manner. Use of statistical techniques has helped in collecting and analyzing the data that was not present in the past. The term is now called “the advanced statistical methods for basket ball” that help in resolving the issue. Methods like progression, per minute analysis, rebound percentage, shooting efficiency etc are some of the best statistical methods used for analyzing the player.
Two articles have been selected that are discussing about the problems being faced in NBA and how some of the new statistical approaches can be used for resolving these issues. The first article is from nature partner journals and the problem stated in the article is about the quantification of data and analysis of players that creates conflicts. Players in the beginning were being measured by archaic rubric system. Along with this techniques used before in the game were not good and problems regarding the quantifying of the data and player performance were becoming trouble. Statistics have been used in the game but now it is being used in the most advanced form because of the vulnerability of the players because of media and societal pressures. All the data like assist, plays and rebounds that meet in the eye used to be quantified but the data supply of the game is not helping is going beyond the limited horizons of the meager numbers (Lum, et al. 2013).
